As an Arboriculture Team Leader, you will be responsible for all tree pruning activities, including planning development, conservation/implantation related pruning and protection of trees within the Disneyland Resort (DLR) open forest. This position includes developing and supporting all aspects of employee safety – training, equipment testing and documenting all safety aspects of plant maintenance operations. The forest maintenance program will be a comprehensive multi-year process based on the Urban Forest Landscape Master Plan that identifies the required tree maintenance or replacement based on risk, safety, aesthetics, comfort visitors and visual input. In some cases, an outside contractor may be brought in to support the resort’s tree management efforts. All development of the scope of work and management of the project will be part of the process.
In addition, you will coordinate the efforts of plant management and Horticulture management in other business areas including our partners in design and construction, recreation, security services, operations and outdoor staff.

Lead and manage all aspects of DLR’s day-to-day urban forest management needs, including the arborist team; which consists of (16) hourly hours, scheduling of casts, scheduling of requests and needs of the day, work and use of equipment, and access to the site based on the needs of interests and security requirements. Develop a pruning method based on the UFLMP criteria and the seasonal needs of each species. These processes should be maintained and updated monthly to reflect progress, rescheduled tasks, and changes based on environmental impact and performance. Supervises arborist contracts to maintain recreational and safety standards to deliver consistent products.

Maintain arborist certification by completing continuing education units, CPR/First Aid, Aerial Rescue, BBP, and Manlift/Fall Protection training as required by ISA and CaUFC. Develop, lead and manage internal training and development programs to coordinate training and site support; growing our tree staff has the ability to be promoted as space is published.
Maintains an arborist emergency response list and liaises with Horticulture Department Managers and DLR Fire Safety Departments on our internal procedures. Visit all theaters/parade routes and other areas affected by the Urban Forest show and ensure that all parts of these areas are ready for the show.
Work with the plant assessment team to evaluate their requests and needs through research.
Plan and organize procedures in accordance with company rules/regulations, Environmental Protection Agency, SCAQMD, Federal and State Standards applicable to safe work, ANSI Z133.1 Plant Operators Guide and OSHA regulations. Shoot a long PM for the due date. Connect and collaborate with IPM teams, irrigation teams, arboriculture teams, landscaping teams, field managers and other business areas as needed. Collaborate with the IP&D team and IPM team on plant projects required to address treatments for known health problems.
Certified woodworker at ISA
Certified ISA Airlift Specialist
Good knowledge of tree pruning techniques, climbing and equipment
ISA Arborist Certificate and/or CaUFC Forestry Certificate
Good presentation on computer; Proficient in Microsoft Office products
Experience with plant management software and Access-based programming
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of government, both verbally and in writing
Ability to read and understand regulations, Operating Guidelines (ROGs), and other safety requirements, as well as federal and state laws/regulations applicable to arboriculture, horticulture, pest control and irrigation.
